Heavy rains have disrupted the Sprint Cup race at Bristol Motor Speedway again, with Sunday’s start delayed because of the weather.
Rain has postponed the Bass Pro Shops NRA Night Race at Bristol Motor Speedway to Sunday at 1 p.m. (ET). With no lights to allow for night racing and no quick end to the downpour in sight, drying the track in time to get in 101 of the 200 laps to make the race official was not possible. The race started more than an hour late because of rain, lightning and hail near the track. He moved up through the field quickly after the race was restarted on Sunday, and eventually took advantage of the massive trouble encountered by other top contenders who fell by the wayside.
SPEEDING TICKET: Denny Hamlin was penalized for his series-leading eighth speeding penalty with just under 200 laps to go in Sunday’s race. The brief shower led to another red-flag delay as NASCAR dried the track even while a bright sun glared for one of the few times in two days. He took the lead on lap 23 and was up front when the race was halted for the night after the completion of 48 laps. Shortly after Kevin Harvick passed him for the lead on Lap 348, Busch began complaining about his vehicle and then spun in Turn 2 and got hit by Jason Allgaier, a crash that also collected Kyle Larson. Keselowski detailed their rocky relationship on and off track in a blog past year. “I’m really exhausted of losing races here with [parts failures]”.
“It’s time to go out there and get every point we can get every time we’re out on the track”, Buescher said.
It wasn’t until lap 404 when Harvick regained the lead and showed that he too had the vehicle to beat. Logano was battling for the lead with the No. 41 of Kurt Busch and his Penske teammate Brad Keselowski in the No. 2 auto.
“I don’t know”, Busch said.
Dillon and his Richard Childress Racing team can’t afford to sit back. But Dillon couldn’t sustain his edge and his chances ended for good when he hit the back of Busch’s slowed machine. When the track dried, the race returned to yellow on Lap 446 with Harvick in the lead, followed by Hamlin, Johnson, Dillon and Jamie McMurray. Before he could bring the vehicle in for repairs, he spun between Laps 1 and 2.
Jeff Gordon was 11th, his best showing in the four races he has subbed for Dale Earnhardt Jr. Pole-sitter Carl Edwards slid to seventh.

Last year: Joey Logano led 176 laps to win his second-straight night race at Bristol and third race of the season. The driver of the No. 18 M&M’s Toyota led 256 laps and had the dominant auto until his luck changed.
