Nashua schools closed Monday after threat of violence

Public school students in Nashua, in the U.S. state of New Hampshire, have been told to stay at home because of a “specific” threat aimed at two high schools.

“It’s a tough decision to make, they seem to be going on all over the country and they are very disruptive on many levels”, said Lt. Kerry Baxter of the Nashua Police Department.

He added: “I do expect our schools to reopen on Tuesday”.

“Because the threat is specific and extends to several schools”, he said, “we will be cautious and close all of our public schools”.

The police department, school administration and state and federal agencies are working to determine the credibility of the threat.

Last week, Los Angeles county officials ordered the closure of its public schools following a disturbing threat received through email involving assault rifles and explosives.

L.A. Superintendent Ramon Cortines said that although the district gets threats “all the time”, recent events in San Bernardino, about 60 miles east of the city, and elsewhere had elevated the December 15 threat.

The FBI eventually determined that the threat against the Los Angeles schools was also not credible, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti said when he announced that classes would resume Wednesday.
