There is a theory from MercatoRetweettato that Paris Saint-Germain refused to do business with Juventus as revenge for their poaching of Kingsley Coman as a free agent.

Matuidi, who has been with the French champions since 2011, is expected to sign a new deal which will keep him at the Parc des Princes until 2019.

Now however, the Serie A champions must negotiate with the French side over a fee.

Marotta, who met up with representatives of PSG in Monaco, told Mediaset: “We’re not there yet, but he has the ideal profile and we’re hoping to reach an agreement with PSG in the coming days”. The PSG star was a rock in midfield during the hosts’ run to the final of the tournament, where they eventually fell to Portugal in a heart-breaking extra-time loss.

The 29-year-old has started in both of PSG’s Ligue 1 games this season. It seems more and more certain that the Italian giants will finally get their hands on Matuidi in an attempt to fill the void left by superstar Paul Pogba.

Blaise Matuidi will stay at Paris Saint Germain despite strong interest from Juventus
