Nassib Named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year

He was one of two players this year to earn unanimous All-Big Ten first team honors from the coaches. “So any time I get to hit somebody I want to go all out”.

Either way, the destination that truly matters is within reach for both title-game participants this week, and there will be no road block for either program with a victory in Indianapolis. “But I’m sure they have similar thoughts that go through their head that we’ve had”. Senior running back Jordan Canzeri earned third team recognition from both coaches and media. That’s all that has mattered in any game we’ve played this year.

No matter how it turns out, kudos to Michigan State for showcasing creativity in reminding recruits that they are the big winners still playing football and chasing a title, not Ohio State or Michigan.

“This was our first goal, to get to this game, ” Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio said Sunday in a teleconference.

LOOKING BACK: This will be a matchup that re-ignites one of the Big Ten’s most underrated rivalries. This week could be different against a stout Michigan State defensive front seven.

Williamson hasn’t played since October 3 and he needed surgery on a torn bicep. Carter played his best football in the final weeks of the season and finished with 22 receptions for 297 yards and two touchdowns. He’s also not afraid to take off with the ball and run. Iowa has wins this season over Illinois State, Iowa State, Pitt, North Texas, Wisconsin, Illinois, Northwestern, Maryland, Indiana, Minnesota, Purdue and Nebraska.

If Michigan State makes it to the college football playoffs and wins a national title, there will be a little more green for the green and white, but the revenue is distributed to benefit more than just MSU.

The Big Ten coaches certainly noticed and voted Nassib, a West Chester resident and Malvern Prep graduate, as the conference’s defensive player of the year.

“Not many players get to experience this a few times in their careers”.

Iowa has certainly made its case as one of the top teams in the country to this point but everyone still questions whether they’re that good or whether they’ve simply took advantage of a soft schedule. He is also second in FBS in tackles for loss (19.5). The Spartans do have an outstanding quarterback in Cook, but despite his pro potential and Michigan State’s fine season, he doesn’t appear to have gotten much traction in the Heisman Trophy race.

Nassib, who was Penn State’s only first-team selection, became the sixth Nittany Lion to win the defensive award and first since Devon Still in 2011. He also has 5.5 sacks and 13.0 tackles for loss this season. Desmond King of Iowa was named a finalist for the Jim Thorpe Award, honoring the nation’s best defensive back.
