Among the many mourning late jazz singer Natalie Cole – who performed in Atlanta in June – is her Atlanta uncle Freddy Cole, brother of the late Nat King Cole.

The daughter of legendary singer-songwriter Nat King Cole, Natalie Cole carved out a distinctive career as a singer in her own right, with such hits as “This Will Be” and “Unforgettable“, a virtual duet with her late father.
The singer had cancelled a few concert dates this December due to illness. Yes, I could have handled some things better.
She took that star quality and put it to good use, joining her dad for the first time onstage at the tender age of 11. “With Love“, sold some 14 million copies and won six Grammys.
The father and son of a prominent OR ranching family plan to surrender Monday to serve more time in prison for setting fires that spread to government lands they leased as cattle rangeland. Although she was still touring up until her death, her last album release was in 2013 with “Natalie Cole en Español”. Later that year, she underwent a kidney transplant, thanks to a donor family from El Salvador.
“I think that I am a walking testimony to you can have scars”, she told People magazine.
According to her official website, Cole was diagnosed with kidney failure four years ago and began dialysis treatments.
“To have your life saved by someone you don’t even know – oh, God”. Nat “King” Cole had died some 25 years earlier, of lung cancer, when Natalie was just 15.

While making the album, Cole told The Associated Press in 1991, she had to “throw out every R&B lick that I had ever learned and every pop trick I had ever learned”. He was born from the union of Cole and Rev. Marvin Jerome Yancy who died at age 34 of a heart attack in his Chicago home in 1985. Natalie would capitalize on her father’s velvet tone later in her career with a massive-selling “duet” album. She followed that up with several more successful releases, including 1976’s Natalie, 1977’s Unpredictable, which was her first album to achieve platinum status, and 1977’s Thankful, which contained her quintessential track “Our Love“.
