When R&B and pop singer Natalie Cole headlined a shows at Zoellner Arts Center at Lehigh University in Bethlehem and Keswick Theatre in October 2009, she said she was glad to be getting a second chance at her career – and life. “Our beloved mother and sister will be greatly missed and remain unforgettable in our hearts forever”, the statement read. Cole soon rose to stardom in 1975 with her debut album, “Inseparable”, featuring the No. 1 single, “This Will Be (An Everlasting Love)”. (She played herself in “Livin’ for Love: The Natalie Cole Story”, a TV movie based on the book.) She went through rehab in 1983.
Cole scored a big hit in 1991 with “Unforgettable” – a virtual duet with her late father, who died before his daughter began her solo career.
Later in her career, Cole also tried her hand at acting on programs like Touched by an Angel, Law & Order: SVU and Gray’s Anatomy. It featured reworked versions of some of her father’s best-known songs. I’m sure the heavens are absolutely loving you and your dad rejoicing together.
Arsenio Hall recalls naming his bass guitar Natalie.
Sadly Natalie was just 15 when her father died of lung cancer however she continued his legacy and became a successful musician in her own right.
Cole’s death was confirmed by publicist Maureen O’Connor. I had to hold back the tears.
Cole said at the time that the interferon treatments made recording much more hard, as some of the side effects _ lack of appetite, diminished thirst _ dehydrated and weakened her.
Cole, as a singer, song writer and performer left the world lovely songs like “This Will Be (An Everlasting Love) and “Unforgettable”.
Freddy Cole has lived in Atlanta since 1971, when he moved his small family from the hustle of New York City to a quieter place where his then young son could run, jump and play in a yard. Natalie Cole could also branch out into slightly more experimental territory, like her Lennon-McCartney cover “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds”, or bossa-influenced jazz “La Costa”, something of an early template for chillout and neo-soul.
Natalie said she thought Amy “has a great talent”, but added: “I don’t agree with the Grammys giving her those nods… With Love” by Natalie Cole.
