National Child Passenger Safety Week prompts vehicle seat checks
Recaro Child Safety is recalling almost 200,000 auto seats over safety concerns, the organization is reporting. No injuries or serious problems have been reported. Instead, they will send customers new webbing for the auto seat along with instructions on how to have it installed. “This could be that they are using the wrong seat for their age or height, that they are not using a seat at all, or that the seat itself was not installed correctly”. That means that on average, six out of 10 parents risk not hearing about a auto seat recall in the most timely and dependable manner – directly from the manufacturer.

“The seat itself is not restrained in the seat tight enough, it’s a little too loose as compared to what it should be”, said Missoula Rural Fire Department Lieutenant Jason Butler. Mark Nagel, with the Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau, says around 40 percent of the child safety seats that are purchased go unregistered, so parents and others miss out on manufacturer recall notices. The correct auto seat, direction of the cart seat, position of the harness, seat belt or latch system, and the air bags all play a vital part of vehicle safety.
19 is the culminating event of Child Passenger Safety Week, which is a national campaign launched by NHTSA to raise awareness about the use and proper installation of child safety seats and safety belts.
“That does not surprise me at all”, said Terri Jones, child-birth educator and vehicle seat fitting station coordinator at IU Health Arnett.
They are at least 80 pounds.
If you’re not able to make it to Downers Grove, www.safercar.gov has a child vehicle seat inspection locator searchable by ZIP code.

Past year in Colorado, seven children under the age of 15 died in passenger vehicle crashes – four of those occurred in Weld County. Even if you think your child is safe, check again, so you can be sure that your child is the safest he or she can be while traveling.
