National Football League fines Broncos safety Darian Stewart for hit on Cam Newton
Stewart was fined for roughing the QB in the final minute of Denver’s 21-20 win.

He took at least four blows to the head, and only one was flagged – and that one was negated by off-setting penalties.
However, ESPN reported over the weekend that a source said another hit to Newton’s head by Broncos linebacker Brandon Marshall should have been flagged as well.
He said he doesn’t feel the need to lobby for his health, even as his teammates and coaches have done that for him. I feel as if there are times I’m taking hits and they aren’t called. But that’s understandable. Sometimes I’ve been hit and they have been called.
Said left tackle Michael Oher: “Well I wish some calls could have gotten made in the game”. The end result of their first game was not good. “If that’s the case, then the league is speaking out of both sides of their mouth”, Pereira said. Player safety sounds great. “We didn’t get any of it. Everybody has a job to do, from refs to the commissioner, to head coach, to players, to general managers”, Newton says.
“Do I think I’ll get fined? Because Cam is an imposing figure or a big guy, it’s kind of the Shaq treatment”, said Tomlinson, an NFL Network analyst.
“My job is to win football games”. “He needs protection too”.
Newton also defended the Panthers’ medical staff, saying he was asked by trainers and game officials at various points during the game if he was OK.
Because of Newton’s ability to run, and escape sacks in the pocket, he tends to be open to major hits.
Newton was slow to get up from the hit but remained in the game. Newton passed that mark in just 79 starts. The former record holder, Steve Young, had 43 rushing touchdowns in 169 games.
The Panthers were the first to taste the offerings of quarterback Cam Newton’s new food truck, “Smokn’ Aces”. Peyton Manning’s successor finished 18 of 26 for 178 yards, one TD and two interceptions.
“Every single day”, Newton said.
“I mean. we asked for certain things to help us out”, Rivera said.
No matter how much some segments of the public still want players to take off their skirts and stop playing two-hand touch and shake it off when they get their “bell rung”, most sane people want the reckless head-hunting to stop, and for the National Football League to abide by its own words about player safety. “Going out of your way, playing dirty and pushing the legal stuff to the limit, I question what your intentions are”. Newton is a 6-foot-6, 245-pound behemoth at quarterback. “I haven’t had the opportunity to see any others but in my eyes they’re the best”.
Rivera says he felt the league “robbed” the Panthers of the chance to honor players and fans at home in the season opener. “He commands such presence and his talent is overwhelming”.
