National Football League notebook | Browns’ Gordon has quadriceps injury

– Josh Gordon’s return to football has been sidetracked again.

Gordon is also allowed to join the team in training camp and participate in meetings, conditioning work and similar activities.

Tight end Tyler Eifert and linebacker Rey Maualuga are among the Cincinnati Bengals players sidelined by injuries as the team opens training camp this week.

Hours before the Cleveland Browns receiver was reinstated by the NFL, Gordon and his former teammate engaged in a few late-night shenanigans at Manziel’s house.

However, Monday’s plethora of good news was hindered a bit Tuesday, as the 25-year-old wideout has apparently been recovering from a quad injury that was previously unreported.

The team placed him on the active/non-football injury list. The team invested in the receiver position through the draft, so if Gordon lets the team down and gets suspended there are plenty of players ready to step up and take his place.

Reports out of Berea indicate that Gordon met with Browns head coach Hue Jackson, EVP of football operations Sashi Brown and other members of the Browns front office on Tuesday to discuss guidelines and expectations for the upcoming season.

The Browns would be better off holding on to Gordon right now anyway, as there is not much risk around having him on the roster. A two-week delay to his first practice could mean he will miss at least one preseason game.

Also, the Browns placed cornerback Joe Haden (left ankle) on the active/physically unable to perform list. Haden continues to rehab from surgery in March. DeValve has a lingering hamstring problem.
