National Football League notebook | Browns like tandem of Gordon, Pryor at receiver

Gordon’s huge talent was on full display in 2013 when he led the league with a franchise-record 1,646 receiving yards in only 14 games.

A Browns team source had told Schefter that the team was not looking to trade Gordon, but Brown’s comments Thursday were the first public comments from the organization on trade speculation around Gordon. In the 2015 season, the 25-year-old did not play a single game because he was penalized for violating the NFL’s subtance abuse policy. Gordon has been reinstated by the National Football League and will start the season with a four-game suspension.

“Those dudes man, it’s kind of insane because I was in college when Josh first got into the league, so to see a guy like that dominate and he’s been back for the past couple of days and he’s been dominant”, cornerback Jamar Taylor told Cleveland.com. He appeared in 23 of 32 games in his first two years in the league and is yet to establish himself as the impact defender many expected when the Browns selected him with the No. 8 overall pick in the 2014 draft.

“I told you guys he’d be back out there at some point, and he’s back”. That is one more than all the Browns wide receivers combined last season. RGIII wasn’t guaranteed the starting job right away, but he did enough to earn it pretty quickly and through a couple preseason games he’s looking pretty good.

Still, something negative has been standing out over these two games, areas of concern that could stretch into the regular season and thus affecting the Browns’ ability to improve in the win column: Third downs. “That is where I want to be and everything like that”.

“We see a bright future”, Gordon said. “But I thought it was a good start for him”. That’s kind of where you go back and count on the training they got in training camp and all those things.

With the starters on the field, the Browns didn’t rush the passer, didn’t stop the pass, didn’t pass the ball, didn’t protect the quarterback and didn’t tackle on special teams.

Needless to say, Cleveland’s reported price tag is exorbitantly high, considering these issues.

Cleveland also needs to listen to new head coach Hue Jackson who will likely take a major role in trying to keep Gordon focused. Jordan Matthews led the team with 85 catches for 997 yards, and Riley Cooper had the second-most yards of any wide receiver with just 327.
