National Football League teams split $7.2 billion in shared revenue

The team’s successful season a year ago – it was 12-4 and made it to the NFC championship game, where it lost to Seattle 28-22 in overtime – and excitement over Brett Favre’s induction into the Packers Hall of Fame on Saturday, may have driven the higher numbers, Murphy said.

MILWAUKEE (AP) — The Green Bay Packers enjoyed another year of record revenue, with the NFL’s only publicly-owned team bolstered in part by the windfall from the league’s broadcasting contracts.

Thus, Green Bay’s – and Murphy’s – scoreboard: A combined quarter-billion dollars from ABC, CBS, ESPN, Fox, NBC and the NFL Network, plus another $150 million from those local (and gushing) revenue streams in Wisconsin.

The latest report from the Green Bay Packers show the league brought in at least .2 billion previous year.

Favre’s team of former Packers beat a group of notable retired National Football League players 38-32. Favre got the Packers back to big game the following year, only to lose to the Denver Broncos and John Elway. As cribbed from Richard Ryman of Press-Gazette Media, here’s how the Packers make all that money.

The Packers announced a franchise-record 5.7 million in revenue for 2014, although the team’s operating profit of $39.4 million was $15 million short of its record.

Murphy said the licensing agreement was reached “in the last few weeks”.

Operating expenses were up 13 percent to $336 million due largely to depreciation, real-estate costs associated with Titletown and National Football League assessments.

With the Packers in such strong financial shape, the team continues to look for ways to invest in and around Lambeau Field. The Green Bay Packers president just isn’t sure there’s a palatable solution.

If all of this had happened, Favre nearly certainly would have ridden off into the sunset, rather than getting talked into coming back by three teammates (Jared Allen, Steve Hutchinson and Ryan Longwell) who were desperate to convince the quarterback to take one more shot in 2010. Murphy said season ticket holders would pay the same amount overall as now, but the cost would be distributed differently.

Murphy said the $55 million renovation of suites and club seats will include windows that open, full-size refrigerators, better concessions equipment and flow, smart TVs and new furniture.

Jordy Nelson had a career year for the Green Bay Packers in 2014, setting new personal bests in targets, receptions and yardage.

In other words, that 115,000-strong Packers season ticket waiting list isn’t going anywhere.
