National Football League under scrutiny for allowing hits to Cam Newton’s head

The Panthers led the league with 39 takeaways previous year and they had two on Denver’s first two drives, including an interception by linebacker Thomas Davis.

They certainly delivered in the opener.

Newton, though, didn’t come close to criticizing officals.

Rivera said because of the 6-foot-5, 245-pound Newton’s size and the Panthers’ style of play, Newton often doesn’t draw the flags on hard hits that other smaller QBs do.

Newton stayed in and led the Panthers into field goal range, although Graham Gano missed a 50-yard attempt that would have given Carolina the lead. Reigning MVP Cam Newton was looking for some revenge after losing a year ago, and the Panthers were confident heading into the game.

“I think it was a very physical game”, Newton said. I’m definitely going to appeal. So, it wasn’t something that I know they did intentionally.

“I’m just super confident in the group of guys we have offensively”, he said. Most notably, Newton took a helmet-to-helmet hit from Broncos safety Darian Stewart during the final drive of the game that was called a penalty, but Newton got called for intentional grounding on the play and the penalties that the two players were called for offset each other.

He said there sometimes appears to be a different set of rules for hitting Newton compared to smaller quarterbacks.

“I think the National Football League really cares more about its image than it does player safety”, Garcia said.

Except when he’s not, said Marshall.

“I know he’s the biggest guy on the field, but he’s still the quarterback”, Olsen told reporters. While he didn’t wanna say it was race related, he did mention it quite a few times while speaking with ESPN.

“Our doctor and the independent come together, and they go and look at it immediately on instant replay, and in this case this happened“, he said.

Statisticians have researched icing the kicker and found that National Football League kickers are about equally likely to make a game-winning field goal whether or not the other team calls timeout just before that field goal. You want it back. Ok, sure, fine. Whatever you say, NFL. “I think the league got it wrong”, Kubiak said. “Yeah, I have Jonathan Stewart on me, but I’m like, ‘Cam’s running the ball'”. “And it’s tough, man”. And then sometimes you’re going to hit him in the head. Obviously he had two balls he’d love to have back.

Later, Cam Newton and Kelvin Benjamin connected on a third-down pass to the Broncos’ 38-yard line. “I’m like, this is a heavy dude”. “But that’s a credit to them, they believe they can get it done; they can fight through adversity and still win”. We may not have to wait that long to see him affect how the position is officiated. If you’re not going to slide we’re going to put something on you. QB Cam Newton ran in for a 2-yard touchdown in the second quarter.
