National Hockey League Blackhawks vs. Islanders Picks & Predictions for October 9, 2015

Chicago Blackhawks right wing Patrick Kane, who is now being investigated for his role in an alleged sexual assault that took place outside of Buffalo on the weekend of August 2, was met with boos and chants of “No means no!” by New York Islanders fans during Friday night’s game at Barclays Center.

With the Blackhawks awarded an extra skater after a slashing penalty on the Islanders’ Nick Leddy during the 3-on-3 overtime, Kane sent the puck toward the middle of the net from the right side. The All-Star winger hasn’t been charged, and has said he expects to be exonerated.

The New York Islanders begin a new era Friday, when they host the reigning Stanley Cup-champion Chicago Blackhawks in their 2015-16 season opener. Kane spoiled the party for the Islanders, as this was their first game in Brooklyn.

“It wasn’t the prettiest game”, said John Tavares, who tied the score 5:22 into the second, converting his own rebound after a nice feed from Boychuk.

Greiss, the only choice to start in goal with Jaroslav Halak still recovering from an upper-body injury, had a sharp game, making 32 saves.

The Blackhawks would then end up with a 2-1 lead that would remain that way until early in the third period.

Teuvo Teravainen had shot go off the goalpost with about 6 minutes to go for Chicago, and Tavares had a slap shot that deflected wide of the net with about 15 seconds left in regulation. Anisimov stole the puck near the blue line of the Islanders zone, skated in and shot high off his backhand past Greiss.

“It’s never fun losing, of course, but we worked hard and we got on the board”, Frans Nielsen said. You score short-handed on the road you usually have a good night. Kane skated into a corner and received congratulations from teammates. New York has been a team on the rise over the last few seasons and this year should continue that trend as some sources have them as the favourites in the Metro division and if they can stick to the script they have a good shot at getting there and their new building brings even more excitement to the fold. Alexa Ray Joel, daughter of Long Island native and music legend Billy Joel and supermodel Christie Brinkley, performed the national anthem before the game….
