National Hockey League notebook: Two players will skip All-Star game

Alex Ovechkin will miss the upcoming All-Star festivities in Nashville, Tennessee, because of an injury he’s been dealing with since mid-November.

Alex Ovechkin will have to sit out one game for the Washington Capitals.

“Looking forward to next year, when you have that little bye week, or whatever you call it”, Kane said of the new five-day break that each team will get next season in January or February, as a tradeoff for signing off on the new 3-on-3 All-Star format.

“They didn’t mince words – This is not a game for you, John – but I understood all the same”, Scott wrote. “For us, it’s not about the prize money”. For us, it’s not about the prize money.

Ovechkin has 28 goals and 14 assists this season and recently became the 43rd player to reach the 500-goal milestone.

So who better to replace the three-time MVP than his 23-year-old teammate, Kuznetsov?

“We talk about it maybe last couple weeks and last week it was very serious, should I go, should I not go”, he told the Washington Times.

We’ll go ahead and assume this was the National Hockey League underestimating demand, but then again maybe the John Scott All-Star captaincy actually did drive this much interest in getting his gear. “(I) clean my house and it’s my bad decision”.

Scott was voted to be an all-star by the fans, and he will be playing in Sunday’s All-Star Game, thanks in large part to public backlash the league faced after the Coyotes traded Scott to the Canadiens, who in turn sent him to the minors. His replacement was not immediately announced. Playing 3-on-3 for 20-minute periods is something Trotz expressed concern over earlier in the week.

“It’s basically like if you have injury, you have to do all the treatments to take care of yourself”, Ovechkin said.

We saw past year with the NHL All-Star game an exaggerated case of why the All-Star game really doesn’t matter. I genuinely believe that when I’m on the ice, or even just the bench, I make my teammates feel safe to do what they do best.

National Hockey League rules require players named to the All-Star Game who do not participate to miss his team’s game before or after the contest, so Toews will miss Chicago’s contest Tuesday against Colorado and Ovechkin will miss Washington’s home game Tuesday against rival Eastern Conference division leader Florida.
