One source close to the committee characterized the Las Vegas franchise as a “done deal”.
The NHL, which has 30 franchises, last expanded in 2000.
Just over three years after selling the Sacramento Kings, the Maloof family is on the verge of returning to major league sports ownership.
The expansion fee is supposed to be in the $500-million range and the arena will seat, about 10-percent less, for hockey. The NHL says that all the Vegas owners need now is the $500 million expansion fee and it looks like that will be a drop in the bucket.
The NHL appears to be Las Vegas-bound.
“The NHL’s decision is the latest signal that professional sports leagues are increasingly comfortable with legal, regulated sports betting”.
Are the Oakland Raiders really going to end up playing in Las Vegas sometime in the near future?
T-Mobile Arena, which would be the home of the expansion team, opened in April.
It’s been apparent for some time now that an National Hockey League team would make its way to Sin City, though Tuesday was the first indication an agreement had been reached. First of all, we will see an expansion draft that will force teams to decide which players they choose to protect and which ones they deem expendable. Because you know, no better place to play hockey other than the Mojave Desert.
