In the end, the Pacific Division won, Scott was voted the NHL All-Star MVP and his teammates hoisted him on their shoulders and carried him around the ice.

“He said, ‘I’m proud of you”. “I can’t even believe this it’s happening”.

The two goals? The standing ovations and 17,134 chanting his name?

League officials did not release details, but fans took it upon themselves to select him once again.

It was a Disney movie on-ice in Music City.

“While I don’t deserve to be an All-Star, I also don’t think I deserve to be treated like I’ve been by the league throughout this saga”, Scott said. Instead, the Atlantic pulled the goalie with a minute to go, and they failed to score. Scott was more than a fan favourite or media darling, he was a lauded by his peers for his self-deprecating humour and handling of an awkward situation.

The only question was if that would actually translate into a spike in viewership as well, or if the All-Star Game would remain something fans ignored on television. Scott then recorded two shots on goal in a 1-0 triumph over the Atlantic Division in the final, helping the Pacific Division capture the US$1-million winner-take-all prize.

The money, of course, was not nothing.

Anaheim goalie John Gibson picked up the win with seven saves, making a couple in the last minute after the Atlantic pulled Bishop for a fourth skater. John Scott was voted an All-Star.

If there were any doubts about Scott as a player able to hold his own with the game’s best – and there were in some corners – they were put to rest early.

“It’s been really kind of a dream nearly”.

Despite the All-Star spotlight, Scott has his priorities firmly in line.

Helping the cause was a game filled with storylines, including the feel-good moment of the season in journeyman John Scott capturing the most valuable player award. Burns, who has won an Olympic gold medal and previous All-Star appearances, admitted he was nervous.

Scott has played in only two home games for St. John’s thus far, but Salter said fans are clamouring to see him. The league wanted to pretend guys like him didn’t exist, that they were an embarrassment that needed to be done away with.

“It’s been so overwhelming, we’ve had so much support”, she said, holding back years. He scored the Pacific’s first goal on a tip-in just 47 seconds into the second minigame. These games are not about who wins and loses, these games are about the people.

In recent seasons I haven’t evened watched the game because I knew what a waste of time it would be.

Overall the All-Star weekend was a success and a step in the right direction for the National Hockey League. Those fears were real. Bettman declined to say who made the call or discuss specifics.

To put it floridly, the Internet ached with the desire for John Scott to be named MVP of the NHL’s All-Star Game Sunday night. Did anybody here even think he’d be as good as he was?

“It was nice to have them down on the bench after”, he said. I originally didn’t like the 3 on 3 multi-game set up for the all star “game”, but I think it worked better. They had a great time.
