National Night Out celebrations let police, community mingle
The National Night Out events are part of an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie.

York residents will have a chance to meet their neighborhood cop and learn how to avoid being a victim of crime at the York Police Department’s annual National Night Out event.
Peskin said the event started in 1984 with about 400 communities. Several first responders will be at the event, including Martinez Police Department, Contra Costa Fire Protection District, American Medical Response, East Bay Parks Regional Police, the California Highway Patrol, and the Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff.
Fort Carson will host a gathering in the parking lot of Soldiers’ Memorial Chapel from 4 p.m.to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
Minneapolis police spokesman John Elder said staff members plan to encourage frequent communication between neighbors and the city’s police department.
