National Voter Registration Day

Re-registration must take place for those who have changed names or have moved since the last election.

The Bus Project will be sponsoring a free after-party from 7-9:30 p.m. this evening to celebrate the community’s voter registration efforts. And when it comes to getting people to sign up to vote, the focus is often on young people.

“National Voter Registration Day is a reminder that it is never too early to think about voter registration”, said Secretary Detzner. “We are working hard to promote state “tools and rules” for voting, as well as any registration deadlines that may be approaching”.

In the November 2014 election (which many observers hope was when we hit bottom in voter participation), only one in three eligible Californians voted. And Michiganders will host National Voter Registration Day actions across the state: from Lake Michigan to Lake Erie; in plants and at worksites; from shopping centers to farmers’ markets; and in college dorms and rec centers. The forms include specific instructions for completing the form state-by-state, including registration deadlines and the address to which you should send your form.

Grandia says voter registrations are available online for printing, but must be filled out and turned in to the auditor’s office in person. But the best way to honor the day is to actually register if you haven’t already.

“It’s the biggest thing we always try to advocate for students, whether it’s SGA, it’s just making sure students have a voice and they have a say so in what’s going on around them”, said Rogers.

National Voter Registration Day is an ideal time for reflecting upon the right and privilege of voting, in addition to ensuring that one’s own registration and information is up-to-date.
