Damage was also reported in Dabney in Granville County near Huntsboro Road and Harold Oberlin Road after a possible tornado hit the area. There were no immediate reports of injuries or deaths.
The National Weather Service in Ruskin has issued a tornado warning for northwestern Polk, southeastern Sumter and east central Pasco counties until 10:15 a.m.
But meteorologists say wind gusts of up to 30 miles per hour are expected to impact the state through Wednesday night, possibly bringing down trees whose roots were weakened by the earlier storm.
Some parts of the region could get as much as two inches of rain by the time the storm system moves away Thursday morning. Environmental clues that may indicate an approaching tornado include a dark, often greenish sky, large hail, and a loud roar similar to a freight train.
The storms knocked out power to almost 2,500 customers in Lancaster County. South Carolina Electric & Gas was reporting another 4,200, mostly in the Charleston area.
We’re expecting a significant severe weather event across Alabama this evening and tonight. Locally heavy rainfall and an isolated tornado are possible, according to the National Weather Service.
“You have to go out and look at it. There’s no other way to do it”, Ken Graham, meteorologist in charge at the National Weather Service Baton Rouge/New Orleans office, said of the survey work. “Tornado Alley” shows a first-person perspective of researchers and storm chasers chasing tornadoes.

Update: Shortly after 2 p.m. the National Weather Service advised citizens to consult the tornado watch for hazardous weather information.
