Reynaldo Lopez (3-3) was among three relievers to combine for 4 2/3 scoreless innings.
New York Mets starting pitcher Noah Syndergaard throws during the second inning of a baseball game against the Washington Nationals at Nationals Park, Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2016, in Washington.
NY finished 6-3 on its nine-game road trip.
The Mets are now nine games behind the first-place Nationals in the National League East but are very much in the wild card hunt after an exciting 4-3 win in 10 innings on Tuesday to the Nationals.
Murphy gets another hit: If the Mets are to hold Murphy hitless in a regular season game, it will have to come after this year, as Murphy closed the 2016 head-to-head series with hits in all 19 games against his former team.
That was all the Nationals needed.
Nationals: Manager Dusty Baker is optimistic that RHP Joe Ross (shoulder inflammation) will soon be reinstated from the 60-day disabled list.
Turner, though, got caught stealing after one of those hits, in the first inning.
Nationals pitcher Mat Latos led off the second with a solo homer over the left field fence, before Daniel Murphy doubled and Harper was intentionally walked.
“I just told [Daniel] Murphy, [Latos is] a good hitter, he might hit one out of here”, Baker said.
Stolen bases have plagued Syndergaard all season long and also burned him in his last outing against Washington. “He’s tough in there and to be able to grind out at-bats like that and turn 3-1 into 3-3 is a good inning for us”. Curtis Granderson walked to load the bases for Jay Bruce, who promptly struck out on three pitches. NY managed four baserunners – one hit and three walks – over the final eight innings.
Ramos homered off Salas, the first run the right-hander has given up since the Mets acquired him from the Angels on August 31. However he’s given up five runs in his first three big league outings combined, and allowed four in a no-decision last time out against the Braves.
Mets: INF Wilmer Flores (stiff neck) remained out of the lineup was going to try to hit in the batting cage before the game.
Mets: LHP Steven Matz (left shoulder tightness), on the disabled list retroactive to August 15, felt “fine” throwing a 20-pitch bullpen session for Single-A Port St. Lucie, Mets manager Terry Collins said. Fernando Salas allowed his first run since being acquired when he surrendered the homer to Ramos, and the Mets (77-69) went hitless with runners in scoring position.
Syndergaard suffered a loss the last time out against the Nationals, also matched up against AJ Cole, but he was dominant Tuesday. Zimmerman entered the night 1 for 8 lifetime against Syndergaard and went 1 for 3 against him.
Mets starter Robert Gsellman tossed 5 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing five hits with four walks.
Roark finished that night in NY (0-2) against the Mets this season, in spite of the fact that he had a 1.88 ERA and a.180/.268/.280 line against in 14 ⁄3 IP vs the Nats’ NL East rivals in two starts and one relief appearance this season.

In his first big league start since June 7, Latos allowed three hits and one run with three walks and four strikeouts as the Nationals earned their fourth straight win.
