Nationals reinstate Strasburg ahead of start vs Braves

Making his first start since August 17, when he was placed on the disabled list with elbow soreness, Strasburg appeared back at full strength early against the Braves, allowing two hits and striking three batters through the first two innings. Stephen Strasburg (elbow soreness) may come off the disabled list to make that start. He’s since lost four of six decisions and now has a 3.59 ERA in 23 starts this season not including Wednesday’s abbreviated outing.

“As far as how long he’s going to go tonight, we don’t really know what his endurance level is, but we encourage him again to be honest with us, ” Nats manager Dusty Baker said before the game.

Named the National League Pitcher of the Month for July after posting a 4-1 record and a 2.08 ERA, Strasburg has struck out 11.08 batters per nine innings this season and held opponents to a.218 batting average against.

The Nationals also reinstated infielder Stephen Drew from the 15-day disabled list.

Drew, 33, returns to the Nationals’ active roster after missing 40 games due to vertigo-like symptoms. “It’s not all the way gone yet, but it’s a lot better than it was”. He is hitting.262 with seven homers and 17 RBIs in 51 games.
