Navy beats Army, 21-17, for 14th straight victory in rivalry matchup

Army wasn’t expected to have much of a chance in this one, but it came out with an excellent game plan, putting pressure on Navy with some downfield throws and playing stingy defense for much of the game, holding the Midshipmen to an uncharacteristic 3-of-15 on third down with just 11 first downs all game. His first team won four games and, though the record in 2015 is worse, morale remains high for a team that has had only one winning season since the 1996 squad won a school-record 10 games under Bob Sutton.

If that’s not enough, CBS Sports noted on Twitter that Reynolds is the only Navy quarterback to go 4-0 against Army in his career.

Earlier this season, Reynolds broke Montee Ball’s FBS career rushing touchdowns record. The Knights are giving up 28.5 points and 381.9 yards per game this season.

Army against Navy college football is ingrained in American history, and it’s only fitting that they are the only two teams to play this Saturday.

Army was able to answer that score after a couple unsuccessful drives on both sides, as Carter found Poe for his fourth catch of the game on a 39 yard touchdown strike to reclaim the lead 17-14.

Army and Navy turned a game already stuffed with pomp and patriotism into a bit of a fashion show.

Reynolds certainly deserved consideration for the award, but not ahead of some of the other players who were invited to the ceremony like Derrick Henry, Deshaun Watson and Christian McCaffrey. Army should be frustrated by this defeat because it gave away opportunities, especially with a missed field goal and three turnovers in the fourth quarter, including two by Carter, which prevented the Black Knights from putting pressure on Navy. Fullback Larry Dixon fumbled at the 14-yard line and Navy recovered to seal a 17-13 win at Lincoln Financial Field. Reynolds is the only Navy quarterback to go 4-0 as a starter against Army. Two plays later, an Army Hail Mary attempt fell incomplete in the end zone, securing yet another Navy win.
