Navy defeats Fordham 52-16 despite injury to Smith
Former Hawaii quarterback Ken Niumatalolo, now head coach for Navy got his first win in 2016. In the Rams’ season opener in Annapolis against the Navy Midshipmen, senior defensive back and kick returner Jihad Pretlow was hit hard and fumbled the ball on the first kickoff of the season, turning it over on Fordham’s 7-yard line.

WOW! One of the Freshman Midshipmen in his dress whites was pulled out of the stands & sent to locker room.
Perry kept the offense humming, too, rushing four times for 28 yards on a 90-yard drive that resulted in a field goal. But we’re fairly certain that if the Midshipmen don’t have any quarterbacks and you’re in the brigade, they may just call your number.
In just over one quarter, Smith ran for 97 yards on 10 carries with a pair of touchdowns.
From question mark to quarterback, Perry quickly became the buzz of college football. But with a big lead, Niumatalolo will probably want to get Worth – who might have a bigger role going forward with Smith now on crutches – out of the game.
The coaches made a decision to pull Perry from the stands, got him suited up and he was ready to play against the Rams. ESPN reports the freshman ran for 30 yards and didn’t throw a pass while living out the fantasy of anyone who’s ever attended a football game.

Most conferences place a limit to how many players a team can dress for road games, meaning they have to provide a pregame list of which players on their roster are eligible. He’s another talented kid. The coaches, however, were confident with starting quarterback Tago Smith and backup Will Worth in the lineup. After serving for three years as Reynolds’ backup, Smith ran Navy’s triple-option offense flawlessly until he was injured on a 22-yard run with 14:17 left in the half.
