President Barack Obama recently approved Carter’s request to deploy an additional 217 USA troops into Iraq and another 250 Special Forces advisers into Syria to bolster the 50 advisers already there.
However, Charles Keating IV, a U.S. Navy SEAL, was killed in northern Iraq while helping Christian and Kurdish militias battle ISIS near the terror group’s stronghold in Mosul.
Keating, who was born and raised in Arizona, was the grandson of the late Arizona financier Charles H. Keating Jr., who was involved in a savings and loan scandal that swept in members of Congress in the late 1980s.
Reniewicki recalled returning to school from running practice with Keating on September 11, 2001. “There was a big fight”, said Warren.
After high school, he ran for IN, but left college to join the SEALS, beginning with the notoriously tough basic training.
Keating was awarded several honours during his time in the Navy, including a bronze star, a Marine Corps achievement medal and an Army achievement medal. “His eyes that twinkle he made everyone his best friend”, she said.
Keating and his fiancée had already sent out invitations to their wedding. I mean, I was pretty devastated”, he said, “His wedding invitation is on my refrigerator and I started working with him when he was in 6th grade – So, I’ve known him since he was 13 years old… “[Keating] got hit just in the course of this gun battle”.
“He is our family hero in every sense of the word”, cousin Elizabeth Ann Keating told CNN. John McCain, R-Ariz., said in a statement.
The attack triggered a massive coalition air response which destroyed equipment, buildings and killed up to 60 militants.
Carter also paid tribute to a US Navy SEAL who was killed in Iraq on Tuesday during an ISIS attack on a position of Kurdish peshmerga forces north of Mosul.
Using suicide bombers, bulldozers and armored trucks, a group of about 125 IS fighters broke through peshmerga defenses and rushed toward Tal Asquf, getting about two miles (3.5 kilometers) beyond the line.
“When they are back on their heels, they often will try a high-profile, high-visibility attack to gain some attention”, he told reporters.
Keating was struck by direct fire shortly after 9:30 a.m., and though he was evacuated within what Warren called the “all-important golden hour” between being wounded and receiving medical treatment, his wound was not survivable, according to DoD News. He was 3km to 4.8km behind front lines when he was killed by small-arms fire, USA military officials said. “The Peshmerga have regained control of Tal Asqaf”.

He said quick reaction forces are formed on a mission-by-mission basis depending on the threat level, distance of the threat and other factors, Warren added.
