The implementation is slated to begin on August 17, with 53 Navy reserve centers receiving the new security, according to NBC News.

Meanwhile, Lt. Commander Tim White is not expected to face charges for being armed with a weapon on the day of the local attack.

Police said Muhammad Youssef Abdulazeez, a 24-year-old college graduate, who was born in Kuwait, carried out the attack, as well as a second one at a military recruiting center 30 minutes earlier.

Authorities also found a second weapon at the scene that did not belong to the gunman.

Now the Navy has immediately authorized the arming of those at reserve centers, Navy spokesman Cmdr.

“It is being considered along with the rest of the full spectrum of force protection measures”.

Mohammad Youssuf Abdulazeez shot and killed five people at the Chattanooga reserve center on July 16. He said their presence, “while well intentioned, will be counterproductive to our recruiting operations”.

Since the attack, armed civilians started standing guard outside of some of the nation’s more than 1,000 off-base military recruiting centers in an effort to offer protection.
