Nawaz Sharif arrives in US to attend UNGA with Kashmir on agenda

Editorials in Pakistani media today appear to be blaming India for the terror attack yesterday in Uri+, saying its timing was suspicious because it coincided with Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif heading to the UN General Assembly to talk about Kashmir+.

Whenever Pakistan has raised the Kashmir issue, India has responded by accusing the former of sponsoring terrorism in its land and the neighborhood and by raising the Balochistan issue.

On Monday, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif strongly urged India to stop violation of human rights in Kashmir and spoke highly of Pakistan’s progress in terms of political and economic stability while speaking to the Pakistani community in NY.

The country was emerging as the fastest growing economy in Asia and it has been duly acknowledged by the worldwide financial institutions, rating agencies and renowned publications globally.

It has also been ascertained that the terrorists had crossed over from Pakistan late on Saturday before they launched the attack on the army base at 5.20 AM on Sunday.

Speaking to the Pakistani community in New York, Nawaz did not mince words when it came to the issue of Kashmir.

But Pakistan had so far never accused of Indian human rights abuses in the Northeast at a United Nations platform, even though it has publicly expressed concerns over alleged violations in Assam and Manipur in the past.

Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has hit out at Pakistan branding it as a “terrorist state”, adding that he was disappointed by Islamabad’s continued support to terrorism and terrorist groups. It has had no hesitation in using air power and artillery against its own people, not once but repeatedly over the years. According to America’s Council on Foreign Relations, without market reforms India risks being left behind in worldwide trade, and that the risk of conflict with Pakistan “threatens to drag India down”. India says cross-border terrorism emanating from Pakistan is the root cause of all problems while Pakistan maintains that “oppressive” regimes have always labeled those struggling for their rights as terrorists.

“In the last two decades, the most wanted terrorists of the world have found succor and sustenance in Pakistan”. Pakistan has denied any involvement in the attack as alleged by India, but it follows a fixed pattern: Every major peace move is preceded or quickly followed by a terror attack on Indian soil, designed specifically to undermine an India-Pakistan engagement.

“There can not be a more cynical policy that targets the very people for whom such deep concern is professed”. Tension has been soaring ever since Indian-controlled Kashmir plunged into turmoil after the killing by security forces of Burhan Wani, a Hizbul militant commander on July 8.
