Nawaz Sharif consults Pakistan Army Chief over Kashmir

Lodhi said that during a meeting, USA secretary of state John Kerry urged Nawaz Sharif to limit Pakistan’s atomic program, but in response, Sharif said that what was expected of Pakistan must also be implemented by India.

He said Pakistan wants dialogue with India to resolve the Kashmir dispute, but categorically stated that dialogue is not a favor to Pakistan, but in the interest of both the countries.

Sharif, who spoke amid heightening tensions between India and Pakistan, insisted that his country wants peace with the neighbour as “confrontation should not be our destiny in South Asia”. Speaking extensively on the issue of terrorism, Sharif said, “Peace between India and Pakistan can not be finally achieved without resolution to the Kashmir dispute”. The meeting concluded with the decision that India would isolate Pakistan on global forums.

“I expect US Administration and Secretary Kerry to use his good offices to help in resolving bilateral issues between Pakistan and India”, he added.

Condemning the attack, Senator Mark Warner (Democrat), Co-Chair of the Senate India Caucus said in a statement that “the terrorists who perpetrated this cowardly act must be brought to justice”.
