Nawaz Sharif making efforts to internationalise Kashmir issue amid isolation fears

The Prime Minister also extended support to the demands of Kashmiri people for self determination and called on the UN Security Council to hold free and fair plebiscite.

On being asked whether cancelling the Indus water treaty with Pakistan was an option, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Vikas Swarup, during a media briefing on Thursday, said: “Eventually any cooperative arrangement requires goodwill and cooperation on both sides”.

Gambhir reminded the United Nations that the trail of the most “horrifying” and “dastardly terror attack” of 9/11 led all the way to Abbottabad in Pakistan, where Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden had been hiding for years and was killed by U.S. forces.

“The whole world needs to sit down and realise that unless and until they deal with Pakistan, terrorism in the world won’t go away”, he added.

To Lodhi’s uncompromising line, Azad Kashmir president Masood Khan also added his own bit by stating that Pakistan was a strong nuclear state, and that any adventurism on India’s part would prove its own undoing.

Terrorist entities and their leaders, many of whom the United Nations has designated as terrorists, continue to roam Pakistan’s streets freely and operate with State support, India said.

However, she said it had been conveyed to the US Secretary of State that the proposals which were expected from Pakistan should also be implemented by India.
