Nawaz Sharif rakes up Kashmir, hails Burhan Wani as ‘young leader’

Reacting to Sharif’s remarks, Vikas Swarup, spokesperson for India’s Ministry of External Affairs, tweeted: “PM Sharif at UNGA says India poses unacceptable conditions to dialogue”. By doing so, said Akbar, Sharif had exposed Pakistan as a supporter of terrorists and terrorism. The land of Taxila in Pakistan, that was one of the greatest learning centers in the world is now the “Ivy League of terrorism”. He was killed by the Indian Army because he was a militant. “We have always been ready for a dialogue, but we will not succumb to blackmail tactics (from) the government in Islamabad that seems eager to use terrorists and terrorism”.

“The Security Council has called for the exercise of the right to self-determination by the people of Jammu & Kashmir through a free and fair plebiscite held under United Nations auspices”.

The statement also listed the items recovered from the terrorists, including Global Positioning System, with coordinates that indicate the point and time of infiltration across the LoC and the subsequent route to the terror attack site; grenades with Pakistani markings; communication matrix sheets; communication equipment; and other stores made in Pakistan, including food, medicines and clothes.

Earlier, Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif glorified slain Hizbul militant Burhan Wani as a “young leader”.

Attacking Pakistan’s stand on terrorism+, which is the biggest global threat, Swarup said, “Virtually every statement by other countries at United Nations has referred to terror as main threat to peace”.

“This indigenous uprising of the Kashmiris has been met, as usual, with brutal repression by India’s occupation force of over half a million soldiers”, Sharif said.

Pakistan separated from India in 1947, after the subcontinent gained independence from British colonial rule.

The Prime Minister emphasised that India must be urged to abide by UN Security Council resolutions on Kashmir and also reiterated his demand of an independent inquiry into extra-judicial killings, demanding a UN fact-finding mission be sent to investigate the situation. He also said Pakistan will continue to support voices in Kashmir for self-determination.

Chaudhry claimed that no other state had acted against terrorism as much as Pakistan. “Shows continued Pak attachment to terrorism”, Swarup said referring to Sharif’s address at the United Nations that prompted India to go for a full blown diplomatic counter offensive.
