NBA 2015-16 salary cap rises to all-time high of $70 million

The National Basteball Association announced this evening that the salary cap for the 2015-16 season for each club will be $70 million, a jump of 11 percent over last season.
Teams had been operating on an estimated cap of $67.1 million. Teams whose payrolls exceed it will be subjected to penalties.
The cap is expected to make a huge jump to over $90 million in 2016-17 after the league’s new TV deal kicks in. Maximum salaries will rise, because they are based on a percentage of the cap, depending on a player’s years of service. The league conducts an official audit every year for the first week of free agency to come up with the official number and $70 million is the figure that occurred.

With the moratorium ending, teams can now spend a bit more freely as they seek to finalize agreements and fill out their rosters. The non-taxpayer mid-level for this season is $5.464 million, the taxpayer mid-level is $3.376 million and the mid-level for a team with room under the Salary Cap is $2.814 million.
