NBA Relocating 2017 All-Star Game Due To North Carolina Anti-LGBT Law
“The NBA and the Charlotte Hornets have been working diligently to foster constructive dialogue and try to effect positive change”, the NBA said in a statement.

In the statement, the National Basketball Association expressed hope of rescheduling the Charlotte match to 2019-giving the state more time to consider changing the law.
“If he really wants to put his money where his mouth is, he’ll have a public conversation with members of the LGBT community, the most impacted by House Bill 2, and he has yet to do that”, Sgro said of McCrory.
NBA All-Star games generate a lot of revenue for the hosting team, which would have been Michael Jordan’s Charlotte Bobcats, as well as the state, but now another state will be reaping those benefits. The law blocks cities from enacting LGBT protections and prohibits transgender people from using the bathroom of their choice in government buildings, including schools. “We have been guided in these discussions by the long-standing core values of our league”. These include not only diversity, inclusion, fairness and respect for others but also the willingness to listen and consider opposing points of view.
The NBA decided Thursday it could not hold next season’s All-Star Game in Charlotte because of “the climate created by [House Bill 2]”.
In an effort to foster an all-inclusive NBA All-Star game in 2017 that recognizes “diversity and respect for others”, the National Basketball Association has chose to move next year’s festivities from Charlotte, NC, and relocate them to a city soon-to-be announced.
Obviously, North Carolina’s governor isn’t very happy about this.
Despite being stripped of June’s event, Charlotte may potentially host the event in 2019.
While the NBA All-Star 2017 events have no new official city, Yahoo! “American families should be on notice that the selective corporate elite are imposing their political will on communities in which they do business, thus bypassing the democratic and legal process”.
“But at the end of the day, I love my city, I love Charlotte, I love everything about it, I love the people there, and I really wanted to see them celebrate the game”.

A new location is yet to be determined, but The Vertical reported New Orleans is the leading candidate to step in as the host, while other cities remain in the mix.
