This year, Zach LaVine will jump out of the gym and win.

Past year at All-Star Weekend in Brooklyn, Victor Oladipo was part of the contest and he was spectacular. Gordon showcased a dazzling display of dunks at the 2013 McDonald’s All-American dunk contest, including a 360-degree between-the-legs thunderous slam.

Another year, another dunk contest without LeBron James. He said he will probably talk to him before his biggest dunk contest of his young career.

“I’ve been practicing”, LaVine said a day after it was announced that he will headline the event. He has busted out some great dunks in game, especially using his energy to get out in the open court and use some of the tricks he has up his sleeve.

“The way I won previous year, it’s hard to top yourself”, LaVine said.

There, while a choir belted out R. Kelly’s hit single “I Believe I Can Fly”, Griffin received the ball from his former teammate, Baron Davis, who was in the sunroof of a 2011 Kia Optima, which he dunked over to win the event. Every year, the competitors in the contest try to outdo not only themselves, but also their opponents and even former champions from previous seasons.

“He was born for this contest”, commentator Kenny Smith said during the broadcast.

From Julius Erving shocking the world with his free-throw line dunk in 1976, to Michael Jordan elegantly gliding toward the rim, properly earning the nickname of “His Airness” – numerous NBA’s most iconic moments have taken place during the annual dunk contest.

LaVine teases fans in games with his smooth dunking ability that’s on the verge of effortless. Averaging 12.8 PPG, 2.9 RPG and 3.2 APG, the 20-year-old combo guard isn’t just a flashy substance teaming with Andrew Wiggins in the backcourt.
