NBC exec: ‘Negative stories good for ad sales’

Sports advertising head Seth Winters said Thursday that the stories helped increase awareness of the event. We’re betting on a pretty massive conga line ourselves. NBCU said the amount of advertising sold represents a new record.

Much of this requires having a cable or satellite TV subscription, though as an alternative, you can sign up for Sony’s PlayStation Vue service for $30 or $40 a month to get extensive access to NBC’s app and website.

Streams will be available on NBCOlympics.com as well as via the NBC Olympics app, which is available for iPhones and iPads, Android phones and tablets, Windows phone, Roku streaming boxes, sticks and TVs, Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV sticks, the new Apple TV via the device’s app store, and Chromecast via the NBC Sports iOS or Android app. “I think it’s very, very helpful”.

“We are hitting on all cylinders”, Winter said.

Golf Channel, which will carry the Olympics’ golf competition, can be added by choosing the $34.99 Core programming package, which has more than 70 channels, compared with the $29.99 Access package. “We are more comfortable”.

The current record holder for fastest 100m men’s breaststroke belongs to South African swimmer, Cameron van der Burg with a record time of 58.46 seconds, which he completed during the 2012 summer Olympic Games in London. For $15 more, you gain the ability to stream all channels broadcasting Olympics events.

The economics of the Olympics are well scrutinized at NBCU and its parent company. Considering the network paid $1.2 billion for the broadcast rights to the Rio Olympics, it has already broken even on that regard.

Rio 2016 Olympic Games: Go for gold against other players in six fast-action minigames, including tennis and archery.

Joining NBC in covering the two-week party will be Bravo, CNBC, MSNBC, NBC Sports Network, USA, and specialty channels covering basketball, soccer and golf, a new event in this year’s program. Rio will have almost 40 times more programming hours than Atlanta.

NBC’s broadcast will also benefit from the time difference in Rio, which is only one hour ahead of the East Coast. That makes the digital destinations a good way for immigrants to follow athletes from their home countries.
