NBC’s ‘Blindspot’ Down in Week 2, But Still Looks Good

While the show averaged 10.6 million viewers last Monday, still below The Blacklist’s early performance in 2013, by Thursday that total had climbed to an impressive 15.2 million.

Each of the three new Monday broadcast series to launch last week saw double-digit declines in their second outings last night, with NBC’s “Blindspot” dropping the least and continuing to look the best.

Meanwhile, reliable CBS continued atop the Nielsen company’s television rankings as a new broadcast season started, on the strength of old reliables like “The Big Bang Theory“, “NCIS” and “60 Minutes“, with younger shows “Scorpion” and “Life in Pieces” also hitting Nielsen’s top 20. The music competition was down a modest 6% from last week.

For the night, CBS added +2.72m viewers (10.79m from 8.07m, +34%), +0.9 in adults 25-54 (2.6 from 1.7, +53%) and +0.7 in adults 18-49 (1.8 from 1.2, +50%), moving ahead of ABC in both demos while remaining first in viewers. Retention of lead-in for “Life” was about the same as last week.

The second episode of the Fox drama “Minority Report” averaged 2.57 million viewers, a 17.1 percent drop from the 3.1 million average for its premiere.

Is up +18% versus NBC’s average in the time period last season (2.0 vs. 1.7, non-sports L+SD).

NBC wins its 11th straight Tuesday night among the Big 4 networks in adults 18-49, this week claiming the night in all key demographics.

The affiliate-based ratings for ABC are inflated due to football pre-emptions in Kansas City and Milwaukee. “LA” drew a 1.2 with 7.55 million viewers, while ABC’s “Castle” managed a 1.6 with 7.76 million.

From 12:35-1:35 a.m. ET, “Late Night with Seth Meyers” (1.3/5 in metered-market households) tied CBS’s “Late Late Show” (1.2/5).
