NBC to air opening ceremony of Rio Olympics on 1-hour delay

“At the outset of every Olympics, there is always excitement about the athletes taking center stage and questions about the host city’s readiness”, said Jim Bell, Executive Producer, NBC Olympics.
The Opening Ceremony of the 2016 Rio Olympics will air on Friday, August 5, on NBC. Streaming will be available through desktops, mobile devices, tablets and connected TVs.
The VR video will be shot by the Olympic Broadcasting Services, in charge of capturing video feeds to worldwide providers. If an event is not television on one of these networks, it will be available online, per NBC Olympics. The 85 hours of planned VR videos will include opening and closing ceremonies, beach volleyball, diving, and fencing, as well as men’s basketball, gymnastics, and track and field. Subscribers will have access to NBCUniversal’s 6,755 hours of Olympic programming, including coverage of competition sessions, on-demand.
The NBC Olympics: Rio News & Results app will provide the latest coverage from the Games, including TV listings and extensive video highlights.
There will also be a pair of digital only offerings.
Of digital-only programs, “Gold Zone” will guide viewers to the best live action happening at a given moment. “Ever Wonder” is a social-focused, short-form video series NBC Sports Digital will offer on the curiosities of the Olympics.
