NBC5: Emergency personnel respond to scaffolding collapse in downtown Houston

At least five people have been pulled from the wreckage of a massive scaffolding collapse at a construction site in Houston today that showered metal onto the pavement and may have trapped others, fire officials said.

Scaffolding collapsed outside a building in Houston, multiple outlets are reporting.

Lozano said authorities are breathing a sigh of relief that more individuals weren’t injured.

The Houston Fire Department said in a news release early Friday afternoon six workers were hurt and taken to local hospitals for treatment.

Emergency personnel are searching for survivors after scaffolding collapsed at a seven-story building under construction in downtown Houston. “They are not life-threatening, but they are serious”. HFD Captain Ruy Lozano confirms that possibly three or four people are trapped, but it’s unknown if they are workers or pedestrians.

About 200 workers were at the construction site when the collapse happened. Witness Julio Zavala says he heard the collapse and ran toward the scene, where he helped pull at least one victim from the twisted metal.

The Finger Cos.is a decades-old Houston-based apartment developer that’s built thousands of units across the city. The scene is not far from Minute Maid Park.

This is developing news. “In the meantime we are grateful for the first responders on the scene and praying everyone is okay”, a spokesman for the company said Friday.
