NC congressman says Charlotte protesters ‘hate white people’
And, in other fun news, North Carolina Rep. Robert Pittenger appeared on the BBC and said, among other things, that the black residents of Charlotte “hate white people because white people are successful and they’re not”.

Hundreds of additional state police officers and National Guard troops will be deployed toCharlotte’s streets on Thursday to prevent a repeat of the violence, Putney said. “It is my understanding that his wife saw him get shot and killed”, Bamberg said.
Just before 6 p.m. Thursday, sources close to Carr’s family confirmed he had died.
The authorities have so far resisted mounting pressure to release police video of the incident, saying it would harm the investigation’s integrity.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Kerr Putney initially said that the man, identified as 26-year-old Justin Carr, was shot and killed during the protest.
Keith Lamont Scott’s wife and other members of her family viewed two videos captured by police dashboard and body cameras that showed Mr. Scott’s shooting death.
“It was incredibly hard for members of the Scott family to view these videos, but as a matter of greater good and transparency the Scott family asks that the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department publicly [and] immediately release both of the videos they watched today”, said the statement tweeted by WCNC-TV. But, he says, the video still supports the police department’s version of what happened.
“It is impossible to discern from the videos what, if anything, Mr Scott is holding in his hands”, he said in the statement.
Scott was shot as he walked slowly backward with his hands by his side, Bamberg said.
Democrat Hillary Clinton discussed the unrest in calls Thursday to the Charlotte mayor and US Congresswoman Alma Adams, her campaign said.
Earlier Thursday, demonstrators chanted “release the tape” and “we want the tape” while briefly blocking an intersection near Bank of America headquarters and later climbing the steps in front of the city government center.
“The way we change the system requires us to reach out and engage the broader American community and that requires being peaceful”, Obama said in an interview with ABC News. Relatives said he was unarmed and was holding a book.
On Wednesday, police arrested 44 people at the protests, one of which turned into a riot.
The shooting has sparked violent protests in Charlotte.
Keith Scott’s death is still being investigated as well. Last year, a Chicago police officer was charged with murder the same day the city released dashcam video that showed him shooting black teenager Laquan McDonald 16 times, footage that contradicted the accounts of officers who said the teen swung a knife at them. But officials said they had no plans to impose a curfew.
Scott was in a vehicle when police arrived to serve a warrant on another man at an apartment complex, he said.
In a statement released by the family’s attorneys, they say they have “more questions than answers”.
Moments after her father was shot, Lyric Scott started recording on Facebook Live, screaming at officers on the scene. Pat McCrory (R), who declared a state of emergency in response to the protests.

“It is also important that people do not use public protest as an excuse to engage in violence or vandalism”.
