NC Officials Respond To New EPA Clean Power Plan

“We’ve invested heavily in renewable energies to provide our members with quality power up there”, Southeastern Electric Cooperative GM Brad Schardin said.

President Obama says the clean power plan will keep 870 million tons of carbon dioxide pollution out of the atmosphere.

“We’re setting fair, consistent standards across the country”. It appears that the Obama Administration misled Kentucky State officials in order to garner support for his legacy plan, according to Whitfield.

“New York was ahead of the curve then they adopted the regional greenhouse gas initiative and I think that’s going to be a possibility for other states“.

Obama said: “We can choose to believe that Superstorm Sandy, and the most severe drought in decades, and the worst wildfires some states have ever seen were all just a freak coincidence”.

“The final rule released today is twice as bad for Kansas as the proposed rule released last summer”, Brownback said. The cuts will begin in 2022, which is two years later than the original deadline.

Given this high level of concern among small business owners regarding extreme weather, it’s hardly surprising that they broadly support carbon emission limits.

The other power plant in the state that could be required to make changes is on the Navajo Nation. States have until September 2018 to submit their plans – and the plans are designed to give the states a ton of leeway in how they choose to set things up – but Texas leaders aren’t exactly scurrying to get together and start coming up with their own Texas plan. “It’s all up in the air”.

“The US can not stay at this level”.

Politicians and analysts said Obama’s Clean Power Plan, which faces fierce opposition from Republican quarters, should spur the worldwide effort to pin down a climate-rescue pact by year-end. What’s more, renewable energy will encourage local investments.

In addition to the climate benefits, supporters pointed to the health benefits of cleaner air. Like knocking down the first domino in a long line, that ruling created the authority for the EPA to act; that authority triggered the EPA regulatory development process; and that process finally led to the Clean Power Plan. Barbara H. Warren, director of the Arizona chapter of Physicians for Social Responsibility, said in a prepared statement. Some, like Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback, had sticker shock upon seeing the new regulations. The White House claims that the plan will prevent an estimated 90,000 asthma attacks in children and head off 3,600 premature deaths.
