He said he would personally take up the matter with Chief Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed in the next cabinet meeting.
A member of VDC allgedly killed a mother-son duo earlier on Thursday after barging inside the victims’ home in Budhal area of Rajouri District.
The VDC member was arrested after a homicide case was lodged towards him.
“VDC guns are becoming hurdle in maintaining peace”.
The victim’s relative said that it was a painful situation for the whole nation and added that the people were not safe in the state.
“If a Army jawan or a police man does something bad, will Army and Police be disbanded”, Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh told reporters at a function here today. “They will continue to do so”, Singh said.
The village defence committees were created by the government at the peak of militancy during the early nineties. The state government has ruled out any such move, saying the VDCs have played a major role in stamping out militancy and defending populations in remote and rural areas of the state. The BJP has also set up a separate VDC cell.
Despite the open terrorist activities of VDCs, the PDP-BJP government is shielding this terrorist group and is not paying any heed to the public pressure for disbanding them.
