NCAA votes to allow Big 12 to hold a football title game
That came after the Big 12 missed the first Playoff due in part to its teams playing one fewer game than other conference champions did, though it can be argued the Big 12’s lack of a title game helped Oklahoma get into 2015’s Playoff. That rule has now been modified.

Big 12 wins its NCAA vote for the right to stage title game among top 2 teams.
Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby said following the meeting he would discuss with presidents and athletics directors in the near future whether the league is interested in holding a championship game, which could be worth upward of $20 million to the league.
The NCAA voted to allow conferences like the Big 12 to host football championship games without the restriction of having 12 member schools Wednesday, effectively ending the need for the league to consider expansion.
Are you a fan of a college football program that was hoping to earn an invite to the Big 12 to help them with their little conference championship problem? The vote is scheduled for February 4-5. “Our membership will continue to analyze its pros and cons, as we now know the requirements should we decide to go down that path”.
“This amendment keeps us from being forced to expand”, Bowlsby said. The ACC and American Conference were against it. Previously, the conference champion was determined by conference win/loss record.
