NDA Highlights Achievements At Gala Event, Modi Cites Anti-Corruption Efforts

A range of government initiatives including Swatchh Bharat Campaign, the Beti Badhao Beti Badhao, Pradhan Mantrai Ujjawala Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana were highlighted as well as moves to boost income of farmers and improve rail, road and air infrastructure and provide electricity to all villages. “The event is being held in a studio format”, an official of the Information and Broadcasting ministry said.

The programme is being telecast live on various channels of Doordarshan including DD National and mediapersons have not been invited for the coverage.

The government had also organised a “Talkathon” previous year to mark its first anniversary. Bollywood actor R Madhavan and anchor Neelam Sharma hosted the programme which was also attended by Union Ministers Birender Singh, Maneka Gandhi, Najma Heptulla, Ram Vilas Paswan, Uma Bharti, Harsimrat Kaur Badal and JP Nadda.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also said that as people increasingly repose faith in the work done by his government, his enthusiasm to work for them also increased.

“After assuming power, it was on the top of our agenda to first address the issue of corruption and in this regard, my government had taken series of steps to tackle it”, said the prime minister.

In a veiled attack on Congress and parties critical of the government, Modi said some parties will only oppose for political reasons.

Amitabh Bachchan, who is also a United Nations ambassador for the girl child mission, said girls should be nurtured, educated and treated as equal and how the “Beti Bachao, Beti Padao” aims at ending discrimination against them.

The Prime Minister highlighted the steps taken by the NDA government to combat corruption.

Sporting a saffron coloured Nehru jacket, he also interacted with girl children from various schools, and even recited lines from his father Harivansh Rai Bachchan’s famous “Madhushala”. Modi pointed out how the Supreme Court had revoked the licences of all the coal mining companies and that the further scrutiny of the coal mine corruption by the government had led to both the Central and State government’s treasury being filled.

Citing an example, he said that making payments through direct benefit transfer and using Aadhaar, leakage of Rs 15,000 crore in LPG subsidy alone was saved. “So, we put the entire system on reform mode”, she said.

Claiming that the Modi government has generated hope in all these sections within two years of coming to power Shah expressed confidence that the government will take the country to new heights after laying the foundation stone in this period
