NDSU making a business out of beating FBS teams

“What we’ve done in the past has given us the opportunity to think we belonged”. Instead we talked about Briles, Rice’s marching band taunting Baylor and. lasers. “We all did. We believe every time we step on the field”.

With five seconds left to go and Iowa leading 21-20, NDSU kicker Cam Pedersen lined up for a 37-yard field goal. As a result, the Bison shouldn’t have an issue going toe-to-toe with the Hawkeyes early on.

The Hawkeyes are coming off a 42-3 win over Iowa State while the Bison beat Eastern Washington 50-44 in overtime.

“Our plan was to keep grinding and keep beating on them a little bit”, said quarterback Easton Stick.

“If we didn’t make it, I thought we could stop them”, Klieman said. “That momentum carried us through to the end of the drive”.

The Bison needed just five plays and 1:53 to move 46 yards and set up Pedersen’s game-winning kick.

“I don’t look at it (at) all like that”, he said. Expect Kirk Ferentz to lean on the run early to wear down North Dakota State’s defense, loosening things up for his offense to hang more points in the second half than in the first.

Louisville head coch Bobby Petrino gets the doused following Louisville’s 63-20 victory over Florida State in an NCAA college football game, Saturday, Sep.

Certainly a win over the reigning Big Ten West Division champions on the road will go down as an upset, and officially, it’s only the fourth time in the past 16 years that an FCS team has knocked off a ranked FBS program.

If you love a major college football program, it’s only a matter of time before Bison come to trample on your season. They’ve collected .175 million from the teams they beat, including half a million from Iowa today.

Keegan Render was making his first career start, at right guard, as Sean Welsh sat out with an ankle injury.

Daniels was tossed for a two-yard loss on first down, picked one of those back on the next play, and then Beathard was buried on a nine-yard sack by safety Robbie Grimsley, seconds after Grimsley showed blitz and Beathard pointed that out.

The Bison defense can not focus their attention exclusively on one player.

We didn’t know it at the time, because there were so many plays to come in North Dakota State’s 23-21 stunner over Iowa on Saturday at Kinnick Stadium, but this was the sequence that defined the Hawkeyes on this day.

Four former North Dakota State players have been selected in the National Football League draft over the past three years: offensive tackle Billy Turner, linebacker Kyle Emanuel, offensive tackle Joe Haeg and quarterback Carson Wentz. Iowa’s C.J. Beathard threw 3 TDs in the loss, two of them to senior star Matt VandeBerg.

The Hawkeyes played not to lose starting their possession with two nothing runs.

LINCOLN, Neb. – Quarterback Tommy Armstrong Jr. threw for 200 yards and scored the game-winning touchdown on a 34-yard run to lift the Cornhuskers to a win at Memorial Stadium. VandeBerg has 11 receptions for 228 yards and one touchdown.

Football is famously a game of inches, and no two teams found that out better on Saturday afternoon than the No. 13 Iowa Hawkeyes and the North Dakota State Bison.

The play didn’t work, but there was still 3:41 remaining. “We were kind of flat from the start and we just never got much of anything going”.

“We left a lot of plays out there”, Beathard said. That one inch will likely haunt the Hawkeyes for the rest of the season – perhaps even longer.

Don’t get me wrong, NDSU is by far the best non-con team Iowa will face in the regular season, but man the competition just isn’t that steep. The first two opponents that they have played have not held up and so that’s alarming to us because they’re playing decent football teams that can’t hold up.
