Near-perfect Greyson Lambert pushes Dawgs closer to perfection

FanSided Daily brings you the hottest content on your favorite teams. That’s the equivalent of this report card. Through those first two games he was basically a bystander, completing 19-of-33 passes for 257 yards and two touchdowns.

Setting NCAA, SEC and Georgia records for best completion percentage (96 percent) with a minimum of 20 completions (24-25-0 for 330 yards and three touchdowns) can really boost a signal caller’s reputation.

Nine players caught a pass from Lambert, with Malcolm Mitchell leading the way with eight catches for 122 yards and a touchdown.

1st (5:34) First down pass is complete for another first down, from Orth to his tight end Jacob August. It nearly sounds like a broken record.

Meanwhile Georgia’s offense thrived around tailback Nick Chubb (159 yards on 21 carries) and quarterback Greyson Lambert. They just have to play the way they’re capable and get out of their own way. Michel rushed for 55 yards, had 32 receiving yards and accounted for three touchdowns. Orth also ran for a touchdown.

Nearly lost in Lambert’s Phil Simms-like performance was another milestone for running back Nick Chubb.

It wasn’t like Lambert beat this defense with much of a real downfield passing game, either. The pass defense, on the other hand, needs some work, after allowing 501 yards to ULM and Vanderbilt.

-Leonard Fournette, LSU, ran for a career-high 228 yards and three TDs to help the No. 13 Tigers steamroll 18th-ranked Auburn 45-21. Lambert also completed 20 consecutive passes at one stretch, breaking a school record that had stood for 17. Georgia ran it 26 times versus only 5 passes on first down against the Commodores. The linemen opened up holes for the running backs and also gave Lambert time to go through his progressions and find the open receiver.

Everything has been said about Lambert’s day that can be said. Maybe we should blame the kicker for that missed FG after quarterback Connor Mitch got hurt in the first half? Center Brandon Kublanow did misread a snap, which led to a fumble and a turnover, but besides that the offensive line graded out flawless . Georgia will need to clean up its kickoff coverage unit over the next two weeks before Alabama comes to town.

It was so bad, Spurrier even got asked a thinly-veiled question about how much longer he’ll coach at USC, when a reporter wondered if Spurrier thought this would be his last trip to Athens. Sterling Bailey, John Atkins and Chris Mayes have all played like the veterans they are.

Sawyer finished with two tackles, while Griffin added one.

This was one of the most dominating performances across college football in the early part of this season.

Nunez is more of an option quarterback, and will take some refining on his throwing motion, but he’s got lots of athletic talent and can probably keep the Gamecocks in a few contests this year. That made for an impossible combination for South Carolina to contain. UGA could have the best linebacker corps in America.

“We just left him alone”, said Mark Richt. Orth looked like a serviceable quarterback and Spurrier will coach him up this week, so I would expect the Gamecocks to be fine on offense. And in 1995, when the powerful Gators headed to Athens, Spurrier had a little fun with it – knowing that Georgia had never before given up 50 points at Sanford Stadium, Spurrier had his Gators score late in the fourth quarter to post a 52-17 win.
