(Neb.)- Nebraska Begins Bowl Practices In San Fran
Nebraska is appearing in its 52nd bowl game, third most all-time behind Alabama (62) and Texas (53). He started eight games in 2014, and 10 this fall. Nebraska hiring Riley caused a bit of head-scratching, from outsiders as well as Nebraska fans. But first, I want to see Tommy Armstrong, a junior captain who has started for almost three seasons, play smarter than a freshman. They are coming off a 40-35 victory over Kansas State in the 2015 Valero Alamo Bowl. They match up well against a UCLA defense that was a mess most of the season thanks to cluster injuries. We’ll know early on in the game whether the Bruins are taking this bowl game seriously.

UCLA offensive coordinator Noel Mazzone is still questionable to coach in the Foster Farms Bowl, but his health seems to have improved since his hospitalization last week. UCLA beat the Huskers 36-30 in 2012 at home, then scored 38 unanswered points to win 41-21 the following year in Lincoln.
UCLA will be without right guard Alex Redmond for the Foster Farms Bowl on Saturday.
Armstrong, who is a junior, threw 21 TD passes. And they’re the only team to beat Big Ten champion and College Football Playoff qualifier Michigan State this season.
Nebraska’s Tom Riley is on the mini-hot seat after one season after one of its worst seasons in the last 50 years… On the other hand, he’s 5-foot-11, 210 pounds, not 6-3, 245 pounds like Henry, the Alabama tailback.
“I think it’s a great opportunity for us to show that we’re a better team than what our record says”, offensive lineman Ryne Reeves told the team’s official website. His receptions total is tied for second on the NU single-season chart, while his yardage total ranks fourth in school history. How can one not be excited for Big Red and the seniors?
One of McKinley’s running mates on the defensive line is sophomore Matt Dickerson. Rypien, 6-3 as the starter, certainly displayed significant hope for the future (four 300-plus games, and one each over 400 and 500), but also looked his age in losses to Utah State and New Mexico as he tossed three picks in each. Clark also broke up five passes and was named first-team All-Pac-12. Linebacker Jayon Brown ranks sixth in the Pac-12 with 8.0 tackles per game, while fellow linebacker Aaron Wallace is ninth with 12.0 tackles for loss.

On the flip side, UCLA freshman quarterback Josh Rosen should be eagerly anticipating throwing the football against a horrific Nebraska secondary which was torched by passing attacks all season long. He completed 59.5 percent of his 447 passes this season, recording 20 touchdowns to only nine interceptions. For us to win those games, we can’t afford those…. UCLA’s kicker was as good or better. Two RB’s still led the way for an overall 4.75 yards-per-carry average. He has downed 15 punts inside the opponent’s 20-yard line as well. UCLA’s kick return defense was below par.
