Demings said the boy’s family is from Nebraska and they were on vacation with their three children.

Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings said, “It was a tough message to deliver to them, to let them know that at this point, their child is dead”.

Disney spokeswoman Jacquee Wahler said on Thursday that resort beaches would be off-limits to guests until further notice.

Meanwhile, a senior source at Disney told CNN that alligator warning signs will be installed near all the waterways at Walt Disney World resorts “as soon as possible”.

Police said that Graves was less than half a metre in the Seven Seas Lagoon, which has no-swimming signs, when the alligator emerged.

A post-mortem examination was carried out on Lane’s body on Thursday, which was found intact underwater.

Lane’s parents watched Tuesday night as the alligator grabbed their son in the shallows of the lake and dragged him deeper into the water, officials said.

Graves died from drowning and traumatic injuries, the Orange County Medical Examiner’s Office said.

State wildlife officials say Disney has an active alligator monitoring program and an open permit to trap alligators on its properties that are deemed to be a nuisance.

Disney is conducting a “thorough review” of all its processes and protocols, Wahler added, which includes the number, placement and wording of its signage.

“There is a good chance we already have the alligators because we focused our efforts on that proximity”, he said.
