Lincoln, Neb.- The Nebraska football team practiced for just under 90 minutes without pads in the Hawks Championship Center on Thursday in preparation for Saturday’s game against Minnesota.
Nebraska hits the road this week with hopes of winning the Big Ten West Division still alive, despite losing their fourth game of the season last week. After throwing for at least 300 yards three times in the first four games this season, with at least 270 yards through the air in all four games, the junior signal caller has thrown for just 234 yards over the last two games.
Nebraska had 203 total rushing yards, led by Terrell Newby who ran for 116 yards and two touchdowns. The Nebraska Cornhuskers (2-2) take on the Minnesota Golden Gophers (3-1) today in a game on the BIG TEN conference college football game schedule…
What the win means for Nebraska: A sigh of relief.
“Hey, let’s just have fun”. “We weren’t moving them”. Nebraska had a 14-play TD drive vs. Wisconsin last week. They had most of the stadium to themselves to chant “Go Big Red!” to their heart’s content by the end, with the frustrated home crowd largely emptied out. “I’ve said all along: They’re the greatest in the world”. But quarterback Mitch Leidner will be counted on for more production against a Huskers team that’s worst among all 127 FBS teams against the pass.
Nebraska, which had lost all four games on the opponent’s final play from scrimmage, responded with Drew Brown 41-yard field goal, and Joshua Kalu returned an interception 41 yards for a touchdown.
The troubling trend for the Gophers was that Leidner was as sharp as he’s ever been, completing 16 of 17 passes for 156 yards in the first half, but they still got blown out.
The only way to turn around what has been a frustrating season is to win.
Nebraska led 38-14 after Armstrong’s 14-yard touchdown pass to De’Mornay Pierson-El before the Gophers tried to rally. The Badgers uncharacteristically wiffed on a number of tackles, allowing Janovich a wide-open path to the end zone.
“There’s a whole generation that doesn’t remember a Gophers-Nebraska game, so I see it more along the lines of a game against Ohio State or Michigan State or Michigan, where people get excited about playing a team that has historically been very, very good”, Moore said.

“I don’t know if you can consider that a rivalry game or anything like that”, he said.
