Nebraska punter, ex-Michigan State punter killed in auto accident

“Lord, you spent your time on Sam”, Graham Nabity, senior fullback, said in prayer during the team vigil.

While he’s not exactly considered the best punter to ever grace East Lansing with his presence, he was pretty darn close.

Cornhuskers coach Mike Riley said Foltz was respected on the team and had a positive influence on everyone he interacted with.

The players were traveling near Merton, about 30 miles west of Milwaukee, when the vehicle lost control on the wet pavement, left the roadway and struck a tree, Waukesha County Sheriff’s Lt. Thom Moerman said. Speed was a factor, he said.

The loss seems downright cruel when it happens to someone young. He was turned to Waukesha Memorial Hospital for his injuries.

Former Gophers punter Peter Mortell was in Green Bay, Wis., on Monday, getting ready for training camp with the Packers, grieving the loss of two dear friends.

Foltz and Sadler had been serving as student instructors at Kohl’s Kicking Camp in Wales, Wisconsin, according to a camp spokesman.

The trio were helping with a weekend punting camp in southern Wisconsin.

The vehicle was on fire when authorities reached it, said Jennifer Wallschlaeger, a Waukesha County administrative deputy.

“Mike impacted so many people not only as a football player, but also from an academic standpoint and in the community as well, ” Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio said in a statement.

“We mourn today with all of the people who were better men and women for knowing Sam and Mike, ” Kohl said.

Sadler was a four-year starter for Michigan State as a punter from 2011-2014.

Players said they will dedicated every game and every practice to Foltz. “How typical was that?” Word got around that Foltz was in the gym, and he was coaxed into participating in a halftime half-court shooting contest. It still hasn’t sunk in yet.

“I just asked my waitress what sport she thought I played.

Whatever problems I had going on today vanished. Dantonio and other Michigan State representatives are still expected to attend the Big Ten media day event in Chicago.

“I’ll bring him home because his mom is anxious to see him”, Dwayne said.

– Shawn Eichorst (@BigRedAD) July 24, 2016Sam Foltz, to anyone who knew him and covered him, was a special kind of person. And that’s the reason his impact will be felt by everyone who knew him for years to come. “We’re asking for people to please pray for the families of the two boys”.

This young man was loved by all and represented everything that was right with the world. “May your memory be eternal”. It’s not yet clear who was behind the wheel.

The next line read, “Slaying limits”.

The Husker punter was also very active off the field. He has volunteered with team hospital visits, School is Cool Week, the Lincoln Marathon and Nebraska’s Sportsmanship Rally.

According to his bio page on Husker athletics website, Foltz has been on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll five times. Foltz (was in the front passenger seat) and Sadler (who was driving), were declared dead at the scene of the crash. “She gave us both a big hug before she left”, Dwayne Delahoussaye told The Advocate. He averaged 44.2 yards per punt last season and had 50 career punts of 50 yards or longer. The stadium’s scoreboard displayed Foltz’s initials.

But Foltz dispelled those rumors in a tweet more than a week ago, when he explained how he was a walk-on who wasn’t recruited.
