Nebraska rides strong second half to win over Oregon

With a dive, he reached the ball past the goal line, and then sprang up to hug his teammates while the Nebraska faithful roared.

Nebraska (3-0) came back from a 20-7 deficit late in the second quarter to give second-year coach Mike Riley a long-awaited win over OR (2-1). Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. and the game will be televised on the Big Ten Network.

Thus delivered the moment that the NU program had needed for a long time: a premier win that perhaps changes its perception around college football.

Before the game Head Coach Mark Helfrich and Kicker Matt Wogan paid tribute to Nick Foltz by placing flowers on the 27 yard marker of the Nebraska Sideline to the cheers of the Cornhuskers Student section.

The Nebraska football team practiced in shorts and helmets for approximately 90 minutes on Thursday.

“This game is about this Husker team”.

“What it means right this moment is a lot”.

“I believe Mick Stoltenberg is going to be okay to play, but how much and what we do with that I’m not sure yet”.

Williams said getting the final stop was huge – both for Nebraska’s confidence and reputation. “We knew who we were at Oregon State and how good we were and knew what we had to do”. We had certain looks based on defense, who we were going to. And what we remember last was an embarrassing bowl game loss to TCU in which OR blew a 31-0 halftime lead.

And for all that it was, it nearly wasn’t. I expect linebacker help in the middle to prevent big gains and to challenge Nebraska quarterback Tommy Armstrong, Jr. to throw the ball.

Lincoln, Neb. – The Nebraska football team practiced in full pads and helmets for approximately two hours Wednesday afternoon inside the Hawks Championship Center and at Cook Pavilion.

Tommy Armstrong Jr. connected with senior wide receiver Jordan Westerkamp for the score. For the players on the field, the choice was clear – to go for it.

Ozigbo’s fourth touchdown of the season came after Armstrong went 2-for-3 passing on the drive, including a 19-yard strike to Alonzo Moore and an 11-yard connection with Pierson-El.

“My legs hurt”, he said, “but they feel better when you’re in the end zone”. “We had a lot of people step in and make plays and that’s what we ask out of the Blackshirts every day”.

Liufau, who was shaken up in the first half, grabbed his right ankle after Ryan Glasgow hit him on the go-ahead score.

“We had him on a couple of basically hook routes early and then he ran a dig on it and kind of changed it up”, offensive coordinator Danny Langsdorf said. “He just gutted it out”.

For the Ducks, particularly when they want to uptempo the execution (one of Chip Kelly’s legacies), execution is paramount and some observers note that the Ducks are a big slower than Kelly’s regime or certainly when the offense had Marcus Mariota to run things.

“I thought these guys did a good job of just stepping up in big-time situations”.
