The biopic of airhostess Neerja Bhanot, who died a heroic death while saving 350 passengers, struck the right chords with all who watched the movie. Getting the physicality correct is the much easier part. After a good Friday, the excellent word of mouth helped the film pick up extremely well and earned Rs 7.60 crore on Saturday and added another Rs 9.71 crore on Sunday. It is also a proud moment for Anil Kapoor, Sonam’s actor-father, who said he is now: “The proudest father ever!”

Being a biographical film, “Neerja” revolves around the actual hijacking of Pan Am Flight 73 from Bombay to NY at its transit at Jinnah International Airport in Karachi, by Palestinian extremists from Abu Nidal’s terrorist outfit on Sep 5, 1986.
The movie has been based on the life story of NeerjaBhanot and the movie is being directed by Ram Madhvani.

Expressing their unhappiness towards Neerja movie, the real life flight attendant Neerja colleagues said that, the movie is far from the reality. The biographical thriller has collected Rs.22.01 crore in its opening weekend.
