‘Neerja’ now tax free in Delhi, UP and Gujarat

Previously, the director of the flick Ram Madhvani said in a statement that they wanted the film to be made tax free so that stories like “Neerja” can reach to maximum people.

The movie is based on the last two days of Neerja’s life, who would have celebrated her 24th birthday on 7 September 1986 but died following the hijacking of Pan Am 73 from Karachi airport fighting to save the lives of 379 others.

Anil Kapoor and Neerja producer Atul Kasbekar were in Gandhinagar to meet Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel. The film has been released on 700 screens only across the country and witnessed terrific audience response through out.

With such measly competition Sonam Kapoor can expect Neerja box office collections to swell further and the movie to continue to be the star attraction in cinemas during the weekend, which should add considerably to teh actress reputation. “Decision to be implemented with immediate effect”, Sisodia tweeted.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav too took to Twitter to make the announcement.

Sonam also stated her view that Neerja was not about any religion or caste in particular but it was about humanity or insaniyat.

“This is truly the power of content and we, along with Bling Unplugged, are thrilled that Neerja has got a wider and deeper footprint in its second week of release”.

Ram Madhavani directed it. It has Sonam Kapoor, Shabana Azmi and Shekhar Ravjiani in the lead roles.
